2025 Recipient - Dr. Martha Tingen

Dr. Martha Tingen is a renowned bio-behavioral nurse researcher dedicated to preventing illness and promoting healthier lives through early intervention. As a professor at the Medical College of Georgia and director of Tobacco Control at the Georgia Cancer Center, her research focuses on substance abuse prevention, cancer detection, and reducing health disparities, particularly among African-American families. She leads efforts to combat tobacco, opioid, and prescription drug abuse, as well as initiatives addressing childhood asthma, obesity, and alcohol misuse.

Beyond her research, Dr. Tingen is deeply committed to community health. She spearheads suicide prevention efforts across Richmond, Columbia, and Jones counties, working to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek help. Her mission is simple but profound: empower individuals to choose life.

Pat Grice dedicated her life to ensuring those around her had the resources to thrive. A beloved member of Columbia County, she spent countless hours delivering food to students, clothing families in crisis, supporting seniors, and stocking local food pantries. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of compassion and service lives on.
